Leonard Maltin recently reviewed SHOOT THE REHEARSAL! BEHIND THE SCENES WITH ASSISTANT DIRECTOR REGGIE CALLOW by Rudy Behlmer. The book was released on June 16th.
Behlmer's books are always interesting; MEMO FROM DAVID O. SELZNICK was one of the earliest film books in my collection. My copy of this important slice of film history was from the book's second printing in 1972, and it is still in print today.
Other Behlmer books on my shelves are MEMO FROM DARRYL F. ZANUCK, BEHIND THE SCENES, and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD. Behlmer is a familiar figure to film fans who have seen him in DVD documentaries or heard his commentaries.
This book about the career of Ridgeway "Reggie" Callow sounds fascinating. Callow worked on many classics, including GONE WITH THE WIND (1939), SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (1954), and THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965).
The only drawback, noted by Maltin, is the book's relatively high price.
